Ronin Katana, famous for their line of tough well built Dojo Pro cutters, introduces a new Dojo Pro ko-katana. as these things are hard to come by.įast forward to 2012. and so went the possibility of ever getting another decent kokatana. After the review I sold that one, thinking I could buy another later. and when doing so, I was amazed at how much fun these ko-katana were. Not interested in such a girly little sword, I sold it (for way less that I should) without even trying it out.Ī year or two later I had gotten into writing reviews, and got another kokatana from the same manufacturer to review. So when I messaged wanting compensation for the mistake, i was informed that the mistake was in my favor, as the sword was a 1070 differentially hardened ko-katana (first quality). but quite short despite the normal tsuka. There was a sword in there that was in a full size saya. When the shipment came, going through the boxes I came across one sword that was quite different. While exploring this world I began chatting with a now defunct sword vendor who offered to sell me some 1050 through hardened seconds he had for an incredible price, as long as I bought 5. Sword length that is.Ībout 6 or 7 years ago, I was just discovering the blossoming world of production katana, thanks to finally coming out of the dark ages and getting online. Being a somewhat tall guy, I really thought that the length should match. You'd need to ask.Seriously, laugh if you want, but years ago I was really hung up on size. Some of them might have the stock on-hand. The one thing is I think CASIberia/Hanwei sellers are doing drop-shipping so they are not shipping and inspecting those swords in hand always. You can find them around $350 from KoA and RVA-katana would probably sell you it around that. ![]() most of the DragonKing katana are over 2.5lbs. But they are heavier and built to be tanks. That Hanzo states it is 2lbs which is definitely on the lighter side.įor heavier, the Raptor series from Hanwei. So probably 2lbs4oz which is probably on the lighter side though these are all tough steels. Looks nice though wrapping the first half of the saya is mostly for looks. ![]() may not be as sharp without being differentially hardened but likely a small matter. Won't have a fancy temper line but likely won't bend. Note that 51 have the same amount of carbon as does 1060 (0.60%) but some other alloying elements like Silicon or Chromium besides Manganese. Hell, Cold Steel uses 1060 and they seem to be pretty damn tough in videos. Howard Clark L6 Bainite blades are sort of known for being the toughest katana out there but those blades will run $5k just bare besides a 1-2yr wait. They supposedly a lot of damn swords besides some Euro stuff.īetter to just some tool steel through hardened. Some ppl say their wraps/itomaki can become undone though. Ronin have a reputation for being good, stout cutters. aka this is marketing but of course it is with "Zombie apocalypse katana" Seems like a real stretch as titanium isn't known for holding an edge.
